Music has always been a vital part of Jewish life, feeding the Jewish soul in times of heartbreak, carrying us through times of change, and expanding our joy through songs of praise and ascent. In this four-part series, we will explore how Jewish music, from ancient to contemporary times, can enrich our lives. Each session will involve text study, experiential learning, and live singing.
Session 2: Song for the World to Come: Justice and Freedom Songs
In this second session, we will explore song as a form of prefigurative politics- how music helps us create and hold our vision for a better world. The Jewish canon is brimming with visionary songs for a more just world, and we will sing and explore some of these songs together.
